Discovering the written word at an early age, Ushma spent her childhood pretending to be a foreign correspondent, a spy or a poet – the stranger the better.
She started her career as a nurse as a 17 year old, working in med-surg, clinical drug trials, multi-organ transplant and even health promotion. Working in an addiction & mental health facility had a huge impact on her, leading to a keen interest in the humanistic approach.
Ushma’s hunger for upstream health and wellness solutions for greater community impact led to a unique Master’s degree focused on oncology & the psychology of stress, coping, engagement and productivity. It resulted in a body of work focused on adult teaching-learning with a pioneering e-learning curriculum development project for hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area.
Moving to India, Ushma brought her experiences in education, psychology and healthcare to the marketing world where she continues to work in brand strategy, content architecture, instructional design and remote team management.
A lifetime of moving across different continents has put Ushma face-to-face with questions about identity, integrity, belonging and human resilience.
Resilience is an underlying thread in her life as a mother, wife, yogi, artist and observer of the human condition. She still pretends to be a foreign correspondent when no one is looking.
